About this product
The Black Rat 4WD Recovery Damper is a weighted blanket that sits over a recovery strap or winch cable and absorbs the energy if it lets go. If a strap snaps or a cable parts, the damper kills the recoil so the broken end drops instead of flying back at the vehicle or the crew. It weighs 1.0kg and folds down to 500 x 440mm, so it stows easily in a recovery kit or behind a seat.
This one is the yellow version with reflective tape, so it stays visible in dust, low light and night recoveries where a spotter needs to see where the line is running. Long internal velcro strips wrap the strap and hold the damper in place rather than letting it slide down towards the shackle. Fit one on every line under load, cable or strap, on any tow or snatch recovery.
Common questions
- what does a 4wd recovery damper actually do
- It absorbs the energy from a recovery strap or cable if it fails, cutting the recoil so the broken end drops rather than whipping back at people or the vehicle.
- how big is the black rat recovery damper folded
- It folds to 500 x 440mm and weighs 1.0kg, small enough to keep in a recovery kit or behind a seat.
- why choose the yellow damper with reflective tape
- The yellow body and reflective tape keep the damper visible in dust and low light, which helps during night recoveries.
- will it slide down the strap under load
- Long internal velcro strips grip the strap or cable to reduce slipping, so the damper stays where you set it.
